i attempted to make my own cold press coffee this weekend. my feelings
1) it is FAR too weak. recipe called for 85g of coffee to 1/3l of water. mix, let steep over night, and strain in the morning. THEN it called to dilute the coffee solution in half with water. i shall be adjusting.
2) it said to use a very coarsely ground bean. i'm going to go a bit finer than what i had.
3) i made my beverage with hemp milk. VERY good.
have you ever had hemp milk? if you haven't, give it a try!
other thoughts for the day
1) today is Rowen's "birthday" - she turns 2 today. now she can officially be considered an adult dog. she is certainly acting like it! we brought her to the pet store last night, and she picked out a new toy. a stuffed bear (and it was on clearance, too. my dog-ter is a fan of sales, like me!)
2) my throat hurts, or maybe it's my tongue. whichever, it's painful. and not much fun
3) i've had a headache since saturday morning, that hasn't gone away.
4) i found a random mushroom coral in my fishtank today. huzzah!
5) i'm tired. so i'm going to sleep incredibly early tonight.

early morning musings
i figured since i'm up, i may as well do something productive.
since coming back from germany, i have not been able to slip back into the regularly scheduled programming, that is the KS time zone. the first night, i was in an airport, so it's understandable i was unable to sleep. the second night, i woke up at 03.00, and then today, i managed to make it until 03.45
meh.
anyhow, while in the great land of DE, i decided to make some adjustments to my own life when i got back to the states. mainly, that i am going to start walking to and from work. it's really not far at all. 1.7 miles (2.74km) each way. so, i'll be able to sneak in 3.7 miles (5.48km) per day! at least, on the days that i walk to work. i'm sure there will be plenty of rainy days that i won't feel up to treking around in the water.
i'm also going to start altering my diet, so that i eat less processed food. and, so that i stop eating randomly, just because i'm bored, or because "well, obviously, at noon, we eat" - so much of the time, i will eat, just because i am "supposed to" and not because i'm actually hungry.
i ended up losing around 11lbs (5kg) while i was over in germany, and i'd REALLY like to keep it off! my pants (the ones that i bought because i couldn't fit into my OTHER pants) were getting tight, and now, they fit me quite well!
finally, soda. as i said several times, while i was there, i consumed about 0,5litre of pepsi light. that's ~16oz in over two weeks. here in the states, i was drinking 20oz (~0,6l) EVERY day! and that's on a light day! @ $1,70 per soda, that was costing me $11,90 per week! BEFORE taxes. (w/ tax, $12,93!) and that's if i only had one 20oz soda a day. frequently, on weekdays i had two. so, a whopping $20,40 per week before tax! ($22,14 after tax) hopefully, i can keep this up, put that $1,7 into a jar, and every month put that into my savings account for my next trek to detushland!
ok, sorry if you read this, it was kind of my own manifesto to keep myself motivated.
it's about 05.45 now, time to get ready for work.

stix n' stones
i woke up this morning to an incredibly sunny day. it's been overcast since saturday morning, and i decided to make good use of the sunshine and read my text for western civ in the window. it was glorious to feel the warm sun on my skin. even ruby participated by lying on the floor where a sun-spot had warmed it.
i then checked my facebook email, and was surprised to find out i had won a contest! i entered to win a new furmintor (dual de-shedding tool) and i actually won! i rarely win anything, so this was quite a surprise! :] i'll let you know how well it works when i receive it.
anyhow, my dear friend christian (or as i like to call him, Xian) was visiting last week(end) for the easter holidays. he stopped by our place for a bit on saturday evening, and spread all sorts of happiness and mirth just by entering the house. long story short, he's finally convinced me i need to make it up to NY to visit him. sooooo, i'm looking at my options, scrimping and saving, and attempting to make the trip to stay with him in brooklyn for a few days this summer! (i'll also need to visit rach(a)el and her sister sarah when i go, too) while i'm gone, scott will try to make a trip to d.c. to visit his best friend Erin, so good times will be had by all! :]
i am impressed with myself, 'cos i actually did my PHIL homework ALL last night! i need to finish reading twilight of the idols for my HWC class and then finish reading tree of smoke for my ENG 325 class... but, i'm more caught up than i've been since the beginning of the semester, so that isn't too bad! ---i'm neglecting to mention the HWC paper, 'cos i don't want to think about it after a great morning. hahaha
and, this upcoming saturday is the TSO show that i will be seeing/listening to! a saint-saens organ symphony is just what the doctor ordered! and by doctor, i mean myself.
now, to read a bit, and then have lunch with scott. later, folksters!

quit it dog!
goodness me, i've got a bit of a sore throat. damnit.
i could feel it coming on friday a bit, but i think i wore myself down too much, and my body decided it could not fight it off.
on a lighter note. i did some yardwork today. i raked up leaves, and then used my reel-mower to chop them to smitherines! it took forever, but it'll be nice 'cos then they'll more easily decompose. (not to mention won't blow around and cover the sidewalks as much)
hmm. L&L came over today and visited our place. i haven't seen them in forever! it was nice though, and we got to catch up a bit.
i have copious amounts of reading to accomplish. we'll see how that goes. and, thanksgiving is almost here. holy shit where has the year gone? still scheming a getaway.
